Portfolio

The portfolio covers a range of work from recent years peppered with some older work.

The ‘Books’ section features The Royal Irish Academy published ‘1916 Portraits and Lives’ which featured 40 portraits of the main figures from both sides involved in the Rising. As part of the 2016 Centenary Programme all portraits were exhibited in Kilmainham Gaol and the original scraperboards were purchased by the OPW on behalf of the State. Prints of the complete collection toured the world exhibited in Irish embassies in Johannesburg, Berlin, Buenos Aires, London and New York. Last year the collection was exhibited on Robben Island Museum in Cape Town, South Africa.

Prints are available to purchase at Bookshop | Royal Irish Academy

Also featured in the ‘Book’ section, some award winning work for The Folio Society, based in London.

The ‘Museum/Documentary’ section features work from the past decade with a number of Museum projects and BBC documentary artwork featured. The BBC series ‘The Story of Ireland’ narrated and written by Fergal Keane and directed by Micheal Connelly opened up this world to me.

The 'Editorial' section. Shortly after leaving art college I started contributing to Hot Press magazine, over thirty years later and I still have the privilege to comment on the topics of the day in each issue. Over the years I have reflected the tumultuous events in Irish society for every major Irish Newspaper but particularly the Irish Times. I have also had a long relationship with the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development) based in Paris, creating illustrations for their Observer publication.

The General section has a cross section of work the most recent being a commemorative coin for the Central Bank celebrating Bram Stoker’s 'Dracula' a subject matter I also covered a few years ago in stamp form for An Post.
